The real, licensed growth hormone medicine — genuinely effective for its approved indications, but sourcing it outside a prescription for recomposition or anti-ageing is unsafe and outside the law.

What it is

HGH (somatropin) is a licensed prescription medicine, approved for conditions including confirmed growth-hormone deficiency in children and adults, and certain other specific medical indications. As a medicine, its effects and risks are genuinely well studied.

Community use for bodybuilding, recomposition or anti-ageing in people without diagnosed GH deficiency is off-label and almost always relies on unregulated grey-market sourcing. This is the same licensed-medicine-vs-diverted-product split seen with Semaglutide, and it matters just as much here.

The science, graded

What’s claimed — and how strong the evidence behind each claim actually is.

“Effective for diagnosed growth-hormone deficiency”

Its core, approved medical indication, backed by decades of clinical use.

“Improves body composition and recovery in GH-sufficient adults”

Some trial evidence exists in specific contexts (e.g. ageing research); effect sizes are more modest than marketing suggests.

“Safe and legal to self-source for physique/anti-ageing use”

This is the dangerous claim. Grey-market HGH carries real quality, dosing and legal risk.

Great Britain

Preliminary researchPrescription (Rx)

Prescription-only medicine (POM) in the UK, prescribed for specific diagnosed conditions. Sourcing HGH outside a legitimate prescription — for recomposition, anti-ageing, or performance use — is unsafe and outside the law, and it is banned in sport under WADA.

What the community says

The 'ultimate' GH-axis compound in community mythology. Discussion is split between people with legitimate diagnoses and prescriptions, and a much larger grey-market conversation the site does not endorse or facilitate.
